Golf Academy

Michael Campbell

Born in the town of Taranaki on 23rd February, 1969, Michael Campbell was brought up among sports. Like most New Zealand children, Michael dreamed of being an All Black, but his mother wasn’t happy with that idea and introduced him to other sports. Michael shone in all of them—but especially in golf.

2005 Us open champion

At seven years of age, Michael began to play golf at the Patea Golf Course in New Zealand; a course where the greens were fenced off to keep the sheep out. His father, Tom Campbell, who was also a great player, passed on his passion for the sport. Still young, Michael moved south to Titahi where he trained as a player, forever keeping in mind that he wanted to be a professional one day.

As of 1988, Campbell represented New Zealand in various international competitions, including the much lauded victory in 1992 in the Eisenhower Trophy. He was also the New South Wales Amateur and Australian Amateur champion, just before taking the leap to the professional world in 1993.

Michael quickly settled into the European tour after achieving three victories in the Challenge Tour of 1994. In 1995, he won the Alfred Dunhill Masters and then the Johnnie Walker Classic in 1999. In the year 2000, he finished fourth in the Australian PGA Order of Merit with triumphs in the New Zealand Open, Ericsson Masters and the Heineken Classic.

The following year, Michael defended the Heineken Classic title and in 2002 he again managed to finish in the top 10 of the Order of Merit thanks to his victories in the Smurfit European Open and the Nissan Irish Open.

In 2005, Michael was proclaimed the US champion, playing on the emblematic Pinehurst No.2 course, where he had a heart-stopping final to see off Tiger Woods by one stroke. That same year, Michael was also victorious in the World Matchplay Championship, beating Paul McGinley.

Today, Michael is in charge of running the Villa Padierna Michael Campbell Golf Academy, where his mission is to help other players by passing on his knowledge and passion for golf.

Optimising the result

Performace Centre

Our Performance Centre is equipped with the most innovative equipment on the market in order to adapt any kind of club to the client’s swing, height and needs in order to improve their results as fast as possible. Our clients can enjoy the following services:

Trackman is the most advanced system in the world to analyse the ball’s swing, impact and flight. The data obtained with Trackman are real measurements, not simulations. Thanks to this technology, used in high-precision guided missiles, we can check all the parameters generated by your golf clubs with complete accuracy.

The body’s natural movement when wearing the K-Vest, coupled with the technology applied to the data given by all of the sensors and devices built into the tool, enable us to look into the complex golf swing movement to teach it with a different approach, since improved swing is recommended for all levels of players regardless of their handicap.
